History of Zionism
with Professor Roni Stauber

This course examines the Zionist idea and its implementation from the precursors of Zionism to the founders of the State of Israel. The lectures explore the origins of the Zionist ideology and inquires into the historical conditions as well as the political strategies that made its success possible.  Topics of the course include the impact of antisemitism on the genesis of Jewish nationalism,  the theses of Theodor Herzl, Ahad Ha'am, and other ideologues of the Zionist movement, the synthesis between political Zionism and practical Zionism, ideological confrontations between the Zionist and anti-Zionist Jews, the Jewish organized community in Palestine during the mandate era and the origins of the Israeli Palestinian conflict.

Roni Stauber Please join Professor Roni Stauber, a member of the Faculty of Humanities at Tel Aviv University and senior research fellow and the director of the Stephen Roth Institute for the Study of contemporary Racism and Anti-Semitism.  Professor Stauber served for two years as a visiting faculty member at the Bildner Center:  first as the Aresty Visiting Scholar during 2007-2008 and then as the Schusterman Visiting Scholar in Israel Studies during 2008-2009.
