In conversation with Rebecca Walkowitz, Dean of Humanities at Rutgers, Nadine Epstein will discuss her collaboration with the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on a collection of short biographies of inspiring Jewish women selected by Ginsburg. These diverse female role models span from biblical times to the present and include two Nobel Prize winners, scientists, performers, social activists, congresswomen, writers, and the first Jewish woman to travel to space. While exploring the lives of these remarkable trailblazers, the book also offers compelling insight into the late justice herself and the changing times she lived through.

Award-winning journalist Nadine Epstein is editor-in-chief and CEO of Moment Magazine and founder and editor of MomentBooks. Among her various other projects she is founder and executive director of the Washington, DC-based Center for Creative Change and founder of the Role Model Project, created in memory of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to help young people identify role models. Epstein reported for the City News Bureau of Chicago and the Chicago Bureau of the New York Times, then later covered the U.S.-Mexico border and rural America. She is the author or editor of several books, including RBG’s Brave and Brilliant Women: 33 Jewish Women to Inspire Everyone and Elie Wiesel: An Extraordinary Life and Legacy. Her work has been published in a wide range of publications, including the Washington Post, Smithsonian, and the New York Times, and she speaks internationally about antisemitism and other issues pertinent to the global Jewish community.
Rebecca L. Walkowitz, Dean of Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers, is Distinguished Professor in the Department of English and an affiliated faculty member in the Comparative Literature Program. She specializes in the study of global modernism, contemporary Anglophone and multilingual fiction, world literature, and translation studies. She is the author of Born Translated: The Contemporary Novel in an Age of World Literature (2015) and Cosmopolitan Style: Modernism Beyond the Nation (2006), both published by Columbia University Press, and the editor or coeditor of eight books. At Rutgers since 2007, she has served as Chair and Director of Graduate Studies in English and also founded and led a multidisciplinary initiative in Modernism and Globalization. In 2020, she received the Rutgers Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research.
